On September 24th, 2020, the DEFIA 2020 Hackathon intitled « P-digitech: technological and digital innovations for a high-performance pineapple industry », an initiative of the Benin-Belgium partnership represented by Enabel, was held at GOLDEN Tulip Hotel. This is part of the support of entrepreneurship in pineapple sector. Three prizes were at stake to support the winning projects: 30,000, 25,000 and 20,000 euros.
The startup BioLife_Benin from the Laboratory of Genetics, Horticulture and Seed Science (GBioS) won the second prize of 25,000 euros.
Their project aims to design an application that will allow:
1- to connect the actors of the pineapple value chains in order to facilitate their interactions
2- to help these actors to produce efficiently for a given market
3- to make available a dynamic map that will give precise information (quantity, geographical location) to traders, processors, exporters, consumers and transporters on the availability of fresh pineapples in real time over all periods of the year regardless of their place of origin.
