As part of the TAERA project, several innovations and high-performing agroecological practices have been developed in collaboration with producers to increase yields and ensure optimal, ecological production of rice and vegetables. To facilitate the dissemination of these new practices, teams from Genetics, Biotechnology & Seed Science Unit, University of Abomey-Calavi and HydroModE-Lab (Laboratoire d’Hydraulique et de Modélisation Environnementale which took part into the project implementation in departments of Mono and Couffo, have transcribed the results into technical sheets and technical-economic reference sheets 📝.
A workshop was organized to validate these knowledge products. This workshop gathered several stakeholders, including PhD students, producers, representatives of farmers’ organizations, notably CCR-B and FeNOMa, and the project coordination team.
During the workshop, the various extension documents produced were presented. Through fruitful discussions among the participants, several points for improvement were raised. Producers and representatives of farmers’ organizations praised the initiative and were satisfied with their involvement.
🎤Patrice Koutchico, representative of the Benin Rice Farmers Consultation Council said, ” I’m delighted that we are involved in these documents drafting, because, having us involved means that there won’t be any documents that don’t reflect our aspirations “.
These technical documents are a major step forward in the adoption and scaling-up of agroecological practices for a successful transition.
