The agroecological platform was conceived to advance sustainable production systems at the territorial level in Benin. Collaborating with partners such as Eclosio, ANaF, and Louvain Coopération in Benin, as well as CNRST, CPF, and Autre terre in Burkina, the unit has successfully trained nearly 2,000 producers in agroecological production. This involved conducting awareness-raising sessions, producing organic fertilizers (e.g., biochar, compost, neem oil), establishing agroecological units, and providing farmers with training through school fields.
These initiatives have empowered GBioS to contribute significantly to the expansion of the agroecological transition and the adoption of high-performance practices in the project’s intervention zones. On an academic level, the platform has successfully enrolled master’s and Ph.D. students who explored various aspects of ecological transition in agriculture. Additionally, an agroecological transition monitoring and evaluation tool has been developed to measure the level of agroecological transition in different territories.
GBioS is committed to playing a catalytic role alongside stakeholders involved in agroecology in Benin, aiming to foster robust partnerships and synergies of actions. The objective is to leverage the agroecological achievements of each institution to attain the agroecological optimum in areas grappling with soil degradation and climatic hazards in Benin.
