The certified training in post-harvest management of horticultural crops is a two-week program designed to support smallholders, subsistence farmers, research assistants, and students involved in horticultural crop value chains. It provides efficient post-harvest tools for reducing losses. The course is created for participants in the West African horticultural sector, but key tools for post-harvest losses reduction can be applied for other crops if the participants master the theoretical knowledge. Modules cover various courses including introduction to postharvest concepts, value chains, post-harvest losses quantification, pre harvest factors affecting horticultural products shelf life, respiration vs photosynthesis, horticultural product harvesting, quality measurement procedures, food safety, packaging materials for fresh produce, cooling and temperature management, storage practices for fresh horticultural crops, transportation of fresh horticultural crops.
