This training is designed to equip professionals, postdocs, and PhD students with advanced breeding and genomics techniques, and analytical skills for crop improvement research. Its goal is to address critical challenges such as food and nutrition security and the impacts of climate change. Several well-structured modules and hands-on sessions were offered. Instructors came from the University of Abomey-Calavi, The National Taiwan University, Wageningen University, the World Vegetable Center, Rothamsted Research, United Kingdom, and Rijk Zwaan. For this first edition, 17 participants from African universities and research institutes were admitted.
The launching ceremony took place this morning in the Adam Ahanchede Conference Room at GBioS, with opening remarks delivered by Prof. Aliou Saidou, Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Scientific Research. Prof. Saidou warmly welcomed the trainees and encouraged them to approach the training with an open mind to deepen their understanding of plant genomics.
Following the opening remarks the first module on ‘’Advanced Molecular Genomics for Plant Breeders’’ commenced. The session featured insightful presentations by Prof. Michel Sezonlin, Dr. Vincent Awe Ezin, and Prof. Enoch Achigan-Dako.
This launch marks the beginning of an exciting journey for students as they embark on this transformative regional training in genomics and plant breeding.
