One of the missions of the University of Abomey-Calavi genebank is to make quality seeds available upon request for various end-users, including but not limited to students, farmers, breeders, researchers, non-governmental organizations, and policymakers. There are two routes to request seeds from our genebank, and the bullets below describe the different steps to follow for each route to access our materials.
Route 1: Genesys (https://www.genesys-pgr.org/)
-
Access the genesis website through the link: https://www.genesys-pgr.org/
How to request seeds from the UAC
genebank?
Step 2 will display all the accessions available on “genesys” for your species.
-
Filter on the Institute code: the UAC genebank institute code is BEN097. This step will narrow down the number of accessions to only the UAC genebank held accessions
-
Select from accessions ticked “yes” in the column (Available for distribution) the list of desired accessions. Accessions selected here will be added to your List
-
Go to the Genesys website homepage and click on the window “My List” to see your selected accessions and request them by clicking on the button “request for material”.
|
-
Your request will be sent to the genebank manager and further steps to take will be discussed with him.
P.S. Use only this route 1 when you know very well the materials you are looking for. This route will require you to create an account on Genesys. This route can be used by students, breeders, and researchers.
Route 2. Direct emailing to the UAC genebank manager
This route is the simplest one and can be used by everyone. To access our materials through this route, follow the steps below.
-
Email the UAC genebank manager (dedeoutchokponhoue@gmail.com) with Cc to e.adako@gmail.com to formulate your request (Species and number of accessions.
-
The genebank manager will then inform you on the availability of the requested materials.
-
The genebank team will get your seeds available with five working days and direct you through necessary paper to sign (when applicable).
-
For all requesters, except farmers, the UAC genebank will share its materials through a Standard Material Transfer Agreement.
P.S. Access to our materials is free. The only cost to bear by the requester is the seed shipment cost, if any.
