Post-harvest biology and value chain analysis are important and complement the other research areas to convince food producers on the benefit of adopting the technologies we develop. Post-harvest losses for major fruits and vegetables are high in sub–Saharan Africa. Different technologies have been developed by researchers but most of them are not financially accessible to farmers. Our research then focus on (i) quantifying post-harvest losses of fruits, vegetables, cereals and legumes (ii) understanding the post-harvest behaviour of fruits, vegetables, cereals and legumes (iii) test novel approach to reduce post-harvest losses based on the pre harvest factors such as the agronomic practices (iv) test novel approach to reduce post-harvest losses based on post-harvest factors management and (v) raise awareness on the need to reduce post-harvest losses. Value chains studies/mapping aim at understanding the interaction among different actors in order to better plan the intervention.
