INTRODUCTION
The cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) , is a herbaceous vegetable plant, from the Curcubitaceae family and
native to India. It is an exotic vegetable used in human food because of its
organoleptic and nutritional quality. Its production is done more in urban and peri-urban areas by
market gardeners in an intensive system with heavy use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. This
situation poses a problem of sustainability of soil productivity and especially of the quality of fruits intended
for consumption. This document proposes new production practices that respect the
environment and people’s right to healthy food.
