INTRODUCTION
The garden korea (Corchorus olitorius L.) commonly called horsewort is known under the name of Ninouwi in the
local “Fon” language. It is a herbaceous plant of the Tiliaceae family and is widely consumed as a
leafy vegetable by households in the form of a sticky sauce. In Benin, vegetable coreta is produced on
market gardening sites in urban areas and in the lowlands of the southwest of the country (Mono/Couffo) in an intensive system and
constitutes an important source of income for producers.
