INTRODUCTION
Watermelon ( Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. et Nakai.) is an annual herbaceous plant in the
Cucurbitaceae family. Originally from Africa, it is now cultivated all over the world. Its fleshy fruit is
mainly consumed for its juicy pulp, rich in vitamins, proteins and mineral salts. In Benin, watermelon has long been cultivated on a small scale. However, a particular enthusiasm for its production has
been observed in recent years with an increase in the number of producers. This interest in watermelon must be accompanied by the provision of good farming practices.
