INTRODUCTION
The tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) belongs to the Solanaceae family which also includes other
well-known species such as potato, tobacco, pepper and eggplant. It is one of the
most cultivated species in the world. In Benin, its production was 343,811 tonnes in 2015, which puts it in first place
in the group of market garden crops. However, the lack of mastery of technical production routes by the
majority of producers constitutes one of the causes of the low yield observed, compared to those observed
in other countries in the sub-region. This summary sheet is therefore designed to allow producers
to have the necessary knowledge for good tomato production.
