On Monday, April 14, 2025, Benin reached a significant milestone in the modernization of its agricultural sector with the official launch of the e-Cashew Project at the University of Abomey-Calavi. This pioneering initiative, born from a strategic partnership between Beninese and Belgian institutions, is set to digitally revolutionize the cashew value chain. Fully aligned with the National Development Plan for Agricultural Transformation (PNDFA) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the e-Cashew project positions itself at the heart of Benin’s agricultural innovation efforts.
The launch ceremony gathered a wide range of key stakeholders from the sector, including representatives from academia, producers, processors, and technical and private partners. Notable and inspiring speeches were delivered by Professor Aliou Saidou, Vice-Rector in charge of research ; Mr. Martin Deroover, Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Belgium; Professor Bonaventure Ahouhuendo, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (FSA) ; and Mrs. Atta Sahadatou, President of FENAPAB.
A roundtable discussion followed, providing a valuable opportunity to reflect on the progress and challenges of the cashew sub-sector. It also served as a platform to explore research opportunities and strengthen collaboration between stakeholders and the e-Cashew project. Panel participants included Mrs. Atta Sahadatou (FENAPAB), Mr. Luc (CNTC-Benin), Mr. Lokossou Léopold (IFA-Benin), Mr. Abihona Hermann (H-Power Group), and Mr. Kolawolé Luc Achille Oniloude (ATDA Pole 4).
This launch marks a turning point for a strategic value chain in Benin, driven by technology, empowered through collaboration, and fueled by the collective commitment of all actors involved. The e-Cashew project stands as a symbol of innovation and sustainable development at the service of the country’s agricultural future.
