Herbaud Phanuel ZOHOUNGBOGBO has successfully defended his PhD research before a distinguished panel of professors. His study, titled “Genetic Improvement of Chili Pepper (Capsicum spp.) for Resistance to Aphid-Transmitted Viruses in West Africa,” was conducted at the Genetics, Biotechnology & Seed Science Unit of the University of Abomey-Calavi.
Since October 2021, Herbaud has dedicated himself to studying the devastating impact of viral diseases on chili pepper crops in West Africa. His research aimed at developing virus-resistant chili pepper varieties to benefit local farmers and enhance agricultural sustainability in the region.
A major highlight of his work was the implementation of cutting-edge serological and molecular detection techniques to identify and combat the viral diseases threatening chili production. These advanced methods enabled precise identification of resistant genetic traits, paving the way for breeding robust chili varieties suited to the West African climate and farming conditions.
The findings of Dr. Herbaud’s research have been published in prestigious scientific journals, marking a significant contribution to the field of plant genetics and crop protection. His work not only strengthens scientific knowledge but also offers practical solutions to farmers battling yield losses due to aphid-transmitted viruses.
This achievement serves as a testament to the power of research and innovation in addressing agricultural challenges. Dr. Herbaud’s dedication and expertise will undoubtedly continue to shape the future of chili pepper cultivation in West Africa and beyond.
Congratulations to Dr. Herbaud Phanuel ZOHOUNGBOGBO on this outstanding milestone.
